Reflexology is a complementary therapy which brings about deep relaxation, encourages your body’s own healing processes and helps maintain wellbeing and balance.
It is based on the principle that all parts of your body are reflected in your feet, each part having its own ‘reflex area’ or ‘reflex’. Using their hands, reflexologists apply gentle pressure to these reflexes according to what they feel and observe. The aim is to release tension and blockages and restore the free flow of energy.
Reflexology is an holistic therapy, meaning it treats the whole of you. For this reason, reflexologists usually work all of the reflex areas during a treatment. However, extra emphasis may be given to particular areas where the reflexologist feels imbalances are present.
What does a treatment at The Sunflower House entail?
A full treatment lasts for 50-55 minutes. Your first appointment will include a brief discussion about your health and wellbeing. This will help me tailor the treatment to your needs.
I will encourage you to switch off and relax during the treatment; deep relaxation is conducive to healing. I work with gentle pressure which is both soothing and effective. It promotes a great sense of wellbeing. After treatment you will be offered a glass of water to drink which helps the body’s cleansing process. You may feel quite tired initially and then re-energised.
You will leave feeling calm and relaxed.
How does it help?
Reflexology works in an holistic way and is excellent for improving your general sense of wellbeing. This is why many people find it helpful if they have been under a lot of stress or feel a little ‘under the weather’. Used as a ‘constitutional’ treatment, it is also an excellent means to help keep you well by having regular treatment.
Many people choose reflexology to help with a range of chronic or acute health problems. These include all kinds of stress-related conditions, also neck, shoulder and back problems, digestive disorders, menstrual problems, headaches and migraine, fertility problems and problems associated with the menopause. Reflexology can be very useful in aiding post-operative recovery. It is frequently used in supportive and palliative care for people with serious and life threatening illness, increasingly within the NHS.
Reflexology is suitable for virtually everyone but treatment should not be given to anybody who has deep vein thrombosis or any type of blood clot. If you are experiencing serious ill health or perhaps recovering from an operation, it might be more appropriate to have shorter treatments but this will be discussed with you.
Why not try reflexology for yourself and discover how relaxing and beneficial it can be. If you have any questions, please do contact me.
